I love them . We've had a herd of them this season ... eating the hell out of the garden vermin .

A fine , worthy animal , I tell ya -

That is a good reason not to use pesticides in your yard.

I had a bunch of them this summer in my yard. My herb garden was the best in a few years.

Also I thought they are a protected insect.

Now to show my age there is a old monster movie from the 1950's about a prehistroic praying mantis. The guy who played Perry Mason's private eye was the lead actor.

Wish I had a shot of the best looking bug I have ever seen but the dog ate it!!! I was up in the hills, splitting wood, when an incredible fuchsia colored moth flew by. Had never seen one. Figured it was a the last one on earth, so I pointed it out to the the dog which preceeded to run very fast, jump in the air, and eat it. I no longer point out rare insects to that dog.

Nor will I ask the dog wether it was an elk bone she came down from the hill with or a femur since my buddy's mother and grandmother are buried in the direction the hound returned. Very troubling dog.

Loren E!

What is that bug? Enlarge it on film and you invent a new B film montster.

Darian: Actually a great picture of a praying mantis, it is hard to get that close to them.

But you should tale a screwdriver to that screw, before the mantis trips on it and finds a trial lawyer to sue for a liability claim. :)

Tony,.... I've never had a problem getting close enough to a Praying Mantis around here. Caught many over the years and always placed 'em back in the folage in my yard. They seem to hang around the Laurel (Bay) tree. 8) 8) 8)

We get a lot of them here in s. oregon and they are quite docile. I caught a real big one at work and brought it home. We put it in the hanging potted plant on our front porch and my son would hand feed it all kinds of bugs and grubs. We named him fred and he stayed there until fall. They are really cool, Theyre the only bugs i know of that have a personality. I like the way there head swivels and they turn to look at you.
