I ran accross a Charlton 8400 series .8 reel, are there any specs you could share with me. It appears to have a large arbor.

Hi Digger

You might post this on Dan Blanton's message board too.

There should be some people there with the answers.

I will see if I can get some too.

I guess they were bought by 3M/Scientific Angler then discontinued.

They are well made reels but a little heavy.

If you can get one for $200-$300 it might be a good deal.

PS: Right now Nautilus reels are the most popular big game reel for the money and the spools come out easily.

Those have bit of a cult following. I was trying to pick one up but after looking for one gave up because the cost was basically full price for one that was used in good condition. I am not familiar with the .8 series the big game ones are 8600 series the 8450 series has interchangable spools that go from 5/6, 7/8 for the same frame. Those spools alone are going for a couple hundred bucks.

thanks, appreciate the info
I did notice it was on the heavy side, but excellent craftsmanship.
it appears to have some type of a mechanical/pawl drag too.

Checked in on "Just Reels" website and found two Charlton's, both in the 8500 series. Both are selling for $2,495.00. Not sure whether either of these reels compare with the 8400 series, tho. :? :?
