We heard some reports that bait fishers were getting some nice Steelhead to 8 pounds from Goethe Park and Watt Avenue.
I would fish any riffle from Goethe Park downstream to Cal Expo now.
I would use a sinktip, short leader and black leech or deep indicator fish with a nymph and egg combo.

Coming up a week from thursday:
Can you suggest lodging for a night and your favorite eateries?
Sine I have never fished the American for steelies, is an 8 weight 300 grain shootinghead overkill??
Where is the safest parking (vandelisum issues) if there are any.
Thanks for the replies. :D

fished lower Goethe Tuesday 12-5 for 3+ hours in the afternoon. I was swinging leach patterns. I got 2 bumps and that was it. I didn't see any fish although a spin guy said that he caught a half pounder on what looked like a San Juan worm. The upside was that it was a beautiful day.

I think the parking lots along the trail at Goethe are OK for security. Wouldn't leave any valuables visible in the vehicle. there is a ranger and parking enforcement personnel in the area during the day. let us know how the fishing was.
