People are fishing Pyramid Lake out of Reno, Nevada for Cutthroat trout now.

It is a traditional place to fly fish Fall, Winter and Spring(Nov-April).

Most people wade it or use a small step ladder. Boats are not popular up there for fly fishers.

It is a "cast, sink and strip" fishery.

Many fish are under 20 inches but fish from 5 to 10 pounds are common too.

There is a good book on the fishery too.

Joe Shirshac is an expert on this lake and he is working almost every Saturday so come by for some help.

I have had some good success with the "heave it and leave it" technique with midge patterns there, but you have to time it right.

I strongly recommend the step ladder approach wen the weather is cold...
We laughed off the suggestion when we went and got very cold!
We fished black/purple buggers using the sink and strip approach.
Another guy nearby had a bee like pattern that really worked while others had some success on black beetles...
We bought a bunch of recommended flies at the Reno shop only to have our best success using the home tied buggers with a bit of flash.
When it's on you can get into double digit fish counts with some of them the size that Bill mentions... 8) beware the wind and cold though!! :(
