There are lots of streams that are fishing really good right now.

October caddis and small mayflies work now.

The lower McCloud River usually gets hit pretty hard these last few weeks for big spawning Brown trout that migrate up from Shasta Lake.

Sure enough - hit the Pit this past weekend for one last fling for the season. A little rain on Friday night aside, the weather was mild, the scenery was beautiful and the fishing was pretty darn good.

Butte county is the exception. North Fork of the Feather is off the hook for trout. All catch and release, barbless hooks.

Great photos Chum.

That is my river of choice for Nor Cal for wild trout.

Those Pit River stain Rainbows are special.

Nice pictures of the fall colors on the Pit. I really enjoyed your pictures. Nice fish.

Thanks, guys. The Pit is one of my favorites as well. Adam's tale of conquest on the Trinity (witness his new avatar!) has inspired me. Hopefully, I'll have Trinity trophies of my own to post on Monday. Fingers crossed...

Does anyone know where to find a complete list of trout streams that are open for fishing during the winter season (after November 15)? I've hunted around online but even the CDFG site doesn't seem to have it. I just moved up to the east bay from Fresno so I don't know too much about northern California waters yet. Thanks! 8)

Thanks Adam, I took that picture on a trip near Glacier Bay NP in Alaska a couple of summers ago. Fast action for pinks and big dollies only an hour's walk from civilization. 8)
