Try to get out there in November if you can.

It is a little cooler then but the water temp is still not so cold as to turn off the bite.

I would guess that November is the best month for Stripers in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta system for fly fishing.

You need a boat to get around. This can be a kayak, pram, Jon boat, light 12-16 foot V-bow like a Valco, Gregor or Klamath too. Some use bigger bay boats and bass boats are great too.

On larger boats it is nice to have a bow mounted electric motor to keep you in the right place.

Some use sea anchors and drag chains to control the wind drift in open water like Mildred Island.

There are some really good guides down there that would help you get into some fish and learn some technique too.

At our fly shop Andy Guibord, Jim Christensen and Joe Shirshac all know the Delta pretty well and can give you some really good advice as far as tackle and equipment goes.

We have good Delta maps too.
