Headed up to the Trinity as I promised myself I would. Lots of beautiful camp sites by the river, I spent the night and
fished Friday. Plenty of room to spread out and find a nice stretch of river to fish by yourself.
That system is loaded with fish all up and down it. Getting them to bite is another issue, as we all know, but with every cast I felt I had a chance of hooking a nice fish. Biggest problem I had was finding water swift enough where the little fish couldn't hang out. Just about every time I drifted into slack water and stripped in to recast, another small fish on the end of the line. Fun at first but irritating after a while.
Saw lots of fish, lots of wildlife, big insects, and something I don't see a lot of on many rivers... frogs. Lots of frogs. A large frog population is often reflective of a healthy ecosystem and they were everywhere.
Nearly 600 miles, hundreds of casts, one nice steelhead... made it all worth while!
I brought back a couple of photos since I enjoy seeing them on other postings and I finally figured out how to post them here.
Special thanks to Adam Grace for sharing with me the general area of his successful outing last week. Just so happens, the general area was descriptive enough for me to find one nice fish... so thanks, Adam, for the insight.

Where the South Fork joins in the main stem. Lots of wadable gravel bars.

One of the many easily wadable beautiful spots on the river.

Beautiful Fall colors.

Frogs were all along the shorline.

Isonychia adult mayfly I think?

Banana slug. Its slime that's hard to remove if you get it on your skin.

A very thick and solid beauty that fought hard with several aerial attempts to throw the hook but was gently landed then gratefully released to continue on her journey.

You can see the bug she took. Short, flashback egg-sucking pattern
