The big Isonychia mayflies emerge on the Pit River in September. We usually try to be there around the second week in September.

We like to camp at Deep Creek campground upstream from the little burg of Big Bend.

A while back someone was looking for photos of these mayflies. I found this site that has a ton of insect photos:

Bill's got it right - Hit the Pit with a buddy this past weekend and had a teriffic weekend of fishing. The Isonychia were everywhere around mid-day. The biggest mayfly you'll ever see! Unfortunately, the fish did not yet seem to be dialed into them, at least not in the adult form. However, they couldn't keep their greedy fins off a big hare's ear!

Were it not for other obligations, I'd be back this weekend and the next....
