Here's a report for all.
I hit the McCloud last week with much success. As long as the sun was off the water it was fantastic. Evening dry fly action with #16 mayfly patterns was great. I had the river to myself for 2 days above Ash Camp. I also landed the my largest brown in this state. 22 inches and gorgeous. He took a green drake nymph I was using as a dropper off a lage olive wolly bugger while streamer fishing. If you haven't streamer fished the McCloud give it a try. I plan on another McCloud trip next week. I can't help it the river has me intoxicated.
Also, I took my Dad and the canoe up to Stumpy Meadows to explore. We had a couple good hours fishing where the creek enters the lake in the eve. I was tugging olive/black streamers. Landed at least 10 in the afternoon. Mostly rainbows and a coulpe brownies. All between 12-17 inches. I also fished the dam area for a little while and laded 2 small largemouth bass and a sunfish. Was totally surprised? I did not know what to expect. Best fishes to all.
