(BRIEFLY, Rob, I want to thank you for the last post about the father/son/marathon). Brings tears and makes us thankful for the good things in life)

Billy:

Fished the Yuba on either a SAT/SUN of almost every weekend for the last month and half or so - quick report. Saw one fish explode like it was chasing caddis on the 4th weekend, otherwise, pretty much didn't see any fish actively working each trip out.

First weekend - rolled about 5 fish on hoppers, hooked two, landed one - weather about 90 outside - possibly same fish, all about 12 inches, but aggressive chasers - water about 2 grand, mid afternoon.

2nd weekend, ass handed to me - not even a grab, about 105 outside, fished up top, swung floater, swung heavy, nymphed heavy/slow, nothing. Late morning.

3rd weekend - rolled, hooked two dinkers (less then 10 inches), couldn't keep them on, stuck on hoppers, late afternoon.

4th weekend - dragged/rowed boat WAY upstream, drifted to Sycamore. Fished all methods, one fish to the boat - in the deep stuff on streamer, good length - 16" but ultra spawned out looking, fought poorly, water about 1500? Charlie and his lady out there - think they stuck a few on top.

5th weekend - half pounder scouting/boat trip with Charlie Gonzalez on American. Saw some smaller stripers, they wouldn't take what we threw, didn't see any downstreamers (shad), no half pounders.

6th weekend - Yuba - serious hiking up and downstream from Hallwood - one fish caught by buddy, nymphing caddis, about 14 inches - great shape, fought very well - VERY silvery - possible first trip back from the saltwater? Water exceptionally warm.

Seined the water all trips - essentially: water above 20 bridge - lots of midges, few extremely tiny mayflies, few worms. Between 20 and Daguerre, lots of midges, few more mayflies, occasional caddis. Daguerre to Hallwood - bug life appears in full force - caddis all sizes all over, mayfly nymphs all over, good numbers of stoneflies!!!!

For you other Yuba fans - hows the fishing been for you? What method you getting them on? If you're using lead or tungsten, are you swinging or aggressively stripping? Nymphing - long leader, less weight vs. shorter and heavier? Guess it might be time to drive up North across the state line ......
