View Full Version : kodiak Alaska
Well we are here on kodiak Island for 14 days.
Cody and I had a chance to do some fishing for Dally varden on the Buskin river. Fishing was GREAT !!! :D We Landed over 45 fish each in 6hrs . The hardest part was keeping the small ones off the hook long enought to hook the bigger on

Watch out for large , furry beasties - I hear there's a few up thataway .
David(GREEN w/ envy) :D
We have not seen any Brown Bears yet :D but their foot prints are all over the place . We always make a lot noise when moving from place to place so we do not startle any. :D We are staying at my daughters house here on koadiak and there are even Bear prints and trails across the street.
The scenery is awsome here .

We fished the Buskin river again last night and landed over 60 Dolly Vardens each . These fish are full of Spunk and hammer a streamer like no other fish I have ever caught. Cody is using a 4 wt and I a 5 and these fish are a hand full. The best fly was a streamer with a plastic Egg in front of it.

Rob -
You can bet your boots I'd be making a lot of noise ....... like high-pitched screaming  !!
Sounds like you guys are into 'em - GOOD JOB =D> !!
David :D
This was the fly of choice for the Dally Vardens.
A Minnow streamer with plastic Egg .
The Biggest fish were holding under the brush along the edge.
The faster the retrieve the better.

Rob,
Great photo's... Keep them coming. Don't forget to keep in eye out for Yogi and Boo-Boo!
Cody and I tried our luck at the mouth of the Bushin River and hooked a ton of Pink Salmon and a few Chum. It was a blast using 3 and 5 wt rods.
I also hooked a rainbow that was full of spunk and beautiful.

This series of reports is going to be as fun as following the ones from Mexico.
I can't wait til I am the one sending out one of these 2 week long strings of reports.
Thanks so much for making the workday go a little faster

This is fly also worked for the salmon, but not as good as a streamer with a egg in front.

Very Nice!!!!!!! Way to get your boy hooked on fishing....pun intended. That is a very chrome pink! They are really hard pullers for their size, and one of the most willing to take a fly.
Looking forward to your next post :)

You are right about theses Pinks being so willing to take a fly.
They will travel 5-10' to take a fly that they like. We fished around a 1/2 mile from the Ocean and all the fish are very fresh. They are a blast to catch with light tackle. Cody used a 9' 3-4 wt st croix and I used 8.5' 5 wt Cabela's stowaway. I thought we might brake a rod with the beating we are giving them. But both Rods came through with flying colors. We have landed over 200 Doly Vardens ,5 Rainbows ,25-30 Pink Salmon and One Chum in 15 hrs of fishing. This place sure can spoil a person. :D

Great reports Rob! You are right, that place could spoil you for a long time! Keep it up, I'm looking foreward to the next report.
Well today was our last day of fly fishing.
We only fished 45 min. and landed 12 Salmon . The Pink Salmon act like Trout and will take a fly the minute it hits the water.
Today I used the same fly and plastic egg that i used for Dally Varden with a twitch strip retreave and they love it. Kodiak is more beautiful than I thought and Fishing was just awsome. Of the 14 days here in Kodiak Cody and I fished around 30 hrs and laned 200+ Dally Varden and 50+ pink Salmon. Fishing was way to easy  and not really much challenge but still a lot of fun. :D Well back to Utah on Monday where the fish reqiure some skill .
Thanks for all the kind words and Take care-
Rob and Cody.
