A few friends and I were messing around with knots and we felt that the strongest tippet knot ( for finer tippet )was the "Orvis tippet knot". Some of the trout I have hooked may still have 2 feet of tippet hanging from their mouth, not beause they were big but because my surgeons knot failed  Check out the the "Orvis Tippet Knot" yourself against the tippet knot you're using currently. I think Keith Kaneko has another way of tying this knot. The knot, I believe is also called the "Christopher Knot". For tippet to fly knot ( non-loop ) try the Pitzen Knot against the knot you're using now.

I agree with you Bob. I have tested this not against the blood knot as well and the blood failed before the orvis on every occassion.

I mentioned this in a previous thread - why would you want a stronger knot at the fly than at your tippet? - it makes no sense - as long as you know the limits of your tackle it makes sense to have that limit at the low point in your system so you just lose the fly and not the tippet - that way you don't have a trout running around with 3 feet of tippet. And that way you only have to tie on a new fly and not a new tippet first
