Hey Guys,
Figured I'd see if anyone is familiar with this area. My buddy moved out there for grad school and is a serious trout bum.
Just curious if anyone has any recommendations on good stretches of rivers or a local fly shop.

Aloha Paul, I would fish Kelly Creek. It is pretty far from Moscow, but the bull trout there are nuts. Mems.

Hello Paul,

We head to Idaho and flyfish the backcountry every summer in August, my dad is a pilot and we take his supercub into one of the numerous backcountry forest service runway strips. Many, in fact almost all, offer outstanding fishing based on the fact that most are relatively inaccessible except through a serious hike or pack trip in or if you're an experienced bush pilot.

The exception to this is to head up highway 12 (Lewis and Clark Highway) out of Kooskia and just head east. In fact, the highway starts in Kooskia and I believe goes all the way through to Missoula, MT in the summer. From this highway there are literally hundreds of opportunities to get away from the road and hike back into lakes or fish the hundreds of feeder creeks of the main fork of the selway river. Clearly you can also fish the selway as well, although it is right next to the road.

Get out a map (or google earth) and youll find a bunch of trails and hikes that will offer a day full of tons of wild westslope cutts and bull trout.

Its a trout bum paradise. Big grasshoppers and ants are usually the ticket for me in August.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the tips. My buddy has been moving around alot and even moving up into montana for a weekend trip. Lots of cutts and the occasional bull. He definitely appreciates the suggestions!
The goto fly right now is a fly that was a joke fly in his box.
Size 8 double humpy
Which brings to bear the question...how do you guys tie those things with moose hair or elkhair? A humpy is one thing but a double seems a bit time consuming.
I suggested going with long bucktail or synthetic, but given most of my dries are tiny down here....
Sounds like big patterns are the name of the game out there.
Again, thanks so much for the advice.
