I was on top of the bridge today looking for line sides and shad but couldnt get over how many salmon were down there . Yes I'm sure they were salmon, every so often the would rise as if they were taking somethin in the foam line. Has anybody else noticed them? Maybe 15 or so of them.Oh, and 3 stripes crusing the shallows.

I know shad were in there Wednesday night but I usually get there after the sun gets off the water and I don't have polarized glasses anymore so I can't see squat anyways especially when the suns off the water.... During the day though you can see lots of fish and lots of suckers swimming around in that area. I think I'm gonna scout it out today and see if I can get stripe to bite. I did hear one guy mentioning already seeing lots of river skunks too though on Wednesday... and he said skunks... not chrome.

I have to say, my polarized glasses are probably in the top 5 on my list of must haves. If I lose them, I wouldnt go another day without replacing them. In fact, I carry 3 pair in my truck. Even the cheapies work well.

Hey Jbird,
Yeah, I just haven't gotten around to replacing them. I had a nice pair of Ray Bans when they still had the Bausch and Lomb glass lenses and they were so nice a few years back but I left them at my old job... just haven't found a pair I like to replace them especially since I like real glass lenses and they seem hard to come by these days....

I agree about glass lenses. I've had two pair I got from Orvis a few years ago that I wouldn't trade for anything. They have the large lenses like the Ray-Bans but more of a tortoise shell frame.

Salmon come in all summer in small numbers.
I think if you are in the basin below the Nimbus Dam at 5:00am you can see people chucking conventional gear for them.
I think they trickle in all the big rivers all summer.
I think they get a big run in the Trinity River in August/September.

Polarized lenses are an absolute must... The best I've seen in polycarbonate are Oakley and Kaenon, but Von Zipper has just licensed 6 layer polarized glass lenses from Maui Jim for a few of their pieces...

Right now I'm wearing the Oakley Gascan in Tortise/Bronze polarized and the Oakley Bottlecap in Black/Black Iridium

Also, Oakley makes a solution which prevents streaking & waterspots...which is good for me as I routinely fall in the rivers I wade...

I were the Von Zippers, there the best pair I've owned. I have a friend that works there so I get them cheap. I also have a buddy that has Kaenon's and Zippers and he usaully were's the Zippers. The Papa G's cover your face well and block out the light.
