Au Sable Hex season

Night fishing during Hex season on the Au Sable River in Michigan was pretty good last week, especially my last night when the spinner fall occurred unusually early and before dark (9:15 - 10:30 pm). The entire river was covered with spinners. Should have taken a photo of that, but I was too busy casting to the risers all around me. There were no monsters where I was fishing this time, but I caught quite a few 15-17" browns. Thom's "All Night Hex" flies (deer hair spun into a parachute) that he sent me raised some strikes, but most of the fish were caught on a regular hackle parachute pattern with a bright white post that was easy to see in the dark.

Fished the mainstream every evening at our cabin there.

Weather was great. Tough to be back in southern California... :(

Don...Sounds like you had a good time! I'm hoping to improve that ANH pattern. But get some strikes on it gives me hope :D I sent Adam Grace a couple to field test and I look forward to his report. Always nice to visit Michigan isn't it?
