You can head east to the mountains or west to the Pacific coast if you want to get cool.

Many streams and lakes in the Sierras are in perfect shape now so fishing should be at it's best.

You can fish surf perch wading or go out for jacksmelt, rockfish and halibut in a boat along our coast.

I would try to plan a week trip in July/August to get out of our Valley heat.

Night fishing where it is legal is another way to stay cool.

Getting up really early down here in the Valley is very important today for good fishing. You can quit by noon to keep away from the mid-afternoon heat.

As summer kicks in, don't forget wet wading for smallmouths on many of the valley and foothill rivers (when flows subside) plus others like the Russian. Mid summer drift fishing in tubes and wet wading the rivers of central PA for smallmouth are some of the best fishing memories i have growing up back east.

Good Dug,

We always talk about a "float-n-camp" on the lower Feather River in the summer.

Beat the heat last weekend at Red Lake. Cutts were being caught on top with midges as well as on the bottom with buggers or damsels. Highlights besides the Cutts were a pair of Ospreys and a pair of Bald Eagles  . Also got rained on, and it felt great. I hung around after putting the pram and gear away just because I could see the storm building up, then stayed long enough to get really wet. Man that was nice. All dry and hot again by the time I hit Placerville. Oh yeah, I camped by a creek in Hope Valley, water was up and brownish, really moving, and the skeeters were very, very, aggressive.
