Just got back from a couple of days up at Lake Sonoma. I put in my inflatable kayak at the Yorty Creek boat top launch area at the end of Hot Springs Road out of Cloverdale. Unfortunately for a topwater man like myself the gate to the Yorty Creek Recreation area doesn't open until 7 AM so you don't get to do really early morning fishing. In two days (midweek) I saw three other boats on the water so you have the place to yourself. The water, as you would expect in a reservoir is deep but there is LOTS of structure and there are some relatively shallow coves for the topwater devotee. :) I suspect that those working Clousers and such subservice flies might do well here. It's a BIG place even in the area I went to so I did LOTS of paddling  The kayak was very useful in getting back into the coves through all the timber. My wife and I found a wonderful place to stay, but it's a a ways from the lake. It is a beautifully furnished one bedroom with great views and it is $150 a day mid week. It's the Ravenridge Cottages out of Cloverdale. GREAT place to stay =D>

By the way, I did mange to catch fish on top so I was happy. Here are a couple. I didn't realize it when I landed it, but looking at the photo the second one looks a lot like a smallie even though they are not supposed to be in this area. I like the spot where I caught the second one so much that I marked it by leaving that bright yellow diver in the top of a tall tree stob out in the middle of the water. It took a very accurate back cast to do that.

Nice fish, especially the smallmouth.
