Many lakes are starting to fish well now.

Early season the fish are near the surface making them easier to catch on flies.

Hatches now can be any time of the day now.

Small midges will be emerging in the AM and PM especially when it is calm.

Damsel flies and Callibaetis mayflies will be emerging in the day time. Look for feeding fish on the surface then position yourself up wind from them.

Some will just put on a clear slow sinking line and a small leech or woolly bugger and troll around to find fish.

Lakes are normally best in the morning till the wind start to blow mid-day.

Some lakes lend themselves to wading but most are better fished from a float tube, pontoon boat, canoe, kayak or small boat.

Very large trout can be taken in lakes.

There are virtually hundreds to try but you might look at Davis, Frenchman, Fuller up highway 80. McCumber is east of Red Bluff on Hwy 44 east.
