April, May and June is the normal prime time for bass and panfish in Nor Cal.

Try to get out early if it is hot and sunny; fish top water till about 10am.

Then try the evening now at 5pm till dark on top.

Mid-day is usually not good if it is hot and sunny, but there are exceptions. Remote farm ponds that are seldom fished will have lonely bass feeding all day on large dragon flies.

Most reservoirs are good in the shallows now. Clear sinking lines with woolly buggers are best there as a rule.

Many small ponds are good.

The Delta is very good with large average size fish.

If you want to guaranty better fishing either hire Captain Kevin Doran in the Delta or go to Kelsey Bass Ranch south of Modesto now.

PS: Probably better to fish one hour in the evening right up till dark after work than fish all day in the sunlight on the weekend.
