A while back a few of you offered to help on some work that was going on at the U.C. Davis property on the Yuba above the Hwy.20 bridge.

Well, here's an even better project coming up next weekend, "Saving Striped Bass and Sturgeon from Dying" on the Sac.

With all this high water the Sac has had to open it's gates at Tisdale Wier several times. This has allowed numerous striped bass and sturgeon to enter the area behind the wier. Now, the water is dropping and these fish are trapped.

Volunteers are needed to help net these fish and transport them back over the wier and into the Sac.

Fish and & Game will coordinate the program and provide sciening nets but what is needed is help with collecting and transporting the fish.

If you have a pickup (4WD prefered), and a large hand net, some waders, and a plastic bucket, you would be very welcomed. Also a sheet of plastic to line the bed of your pickup.

The bed of your truck would be made into a temporary holding pen after the fish are collected. They then would be moved in small lots from these drying ponds over the weir and back into the river.

Sound like fun?

If you'd like to help out you can contact Ed Brown (the Fish&Game Commissioner for the area) at (530) 749-9574.

Get out there, TONY
