I would say that bass & panfish are the best bet now. It is usually best in May. Go now before it gets too warm.

We have heard that the Stripers are up in the lower Feather River.

Some low to mid-elevation lakes should be good for trout.

Maybe 10% of the streams are good for trout so it is a hit and miss game for now. Most are still high and cold.

We should have some reports coming in this week from those who did venture out.

Made the yearly Opening Day trek to Burney to have breakfast at the Cassel Volunteer Fire Dept annual breakfast and fish the local waters.

The powerhouse riffle wasn't too crowded on Saturday morning, 8-10 fisherpersons, and was productive as usual with the usual nymphs. There was also a small late afternoon/early evening hatch on the slick water above the bridge.

We fished Baum on Sunday, far fewer fisherman than on Saturday. Of all things, a slowly stripped Prince nymph worked to active fish in the current.

We drove over to the Fall on Saturday afternoon to kill some time and have a Pitt burger. We had heard that it was off color but crazy crowded on Saturday morning. It really was off color, but not terribly and there was only one car at the Cal Trout access. The access looks to have been recently improved and you can now drive down to the water to launch, but don't think you could get a trailer in there.

The Pitt was really, really off color...looked like chocolate milk and was running like those pitcures you see of the Colorado River rapids. The falls you see from 299 where magnificent.

All in all, a good trip that always marks the opening of stream fishing.

We fished the Fall on Saturday and Sunday. When we got over there on Thursday, the river looked pretty good at the dredge and Island Bridge. The upper river above Spinner Fall was off color. When we arrived on Saturday morning, the river was quite off color at Island Bridge. We started to go up river, however, there were so many boats we knew it would be "a zoo." We headed down river. The fishing was very slow; probably the worst I've seen in many years. With all the warm weather, Bear Creek is just dumping muddy water into the Fall. I would guess that it will be a couple of weeks before things start to clear up.

Didn't make it out for opener this year. Work is getting in the way. Made it out one morning for some surf action down south.
Picked up the smallest halibut yet on a size 8 razzler looking for a corbina. Go figure. At least its a tug on the end of the line.
This guy did have good camo action going on. Sounds like some of you guys made it out despite the flows. Hope to make it northbound sometime this summer.
