View Full Version : Small, shallow ponds are usually best first

The sun warms up these little ponds pretty fast which draws the bass and panfish into the shallows to get ready to spawn.

Most of these ponds don't get a lot of water flowing into them like the larger reservoirs like Folsom Lake so they get warmed up for fishing sooner.

I think Cameron Park Pond and Mather Pond are a couple of good ones with easy access. You can use a float tube, pontoon boat, canoe or kayak in these for better access to the fish.

'Rancho Nuclearous' (Rancho Seco) is another good choice. This is a beautiful clear pond that has some pretty big bass in it too. I think you can use a boat with electric motor in Seco.

These ponds have nice facilities for the family too.
