May is usually the month we fish for them down river from boats. This can be at the mouth of the American and the mouth of the Feather.

June is traditionally the month for wading for Shad up river.

We will have to see what happens when the rain stops and is gets warmer.

The Lower American River needs to be at 5,000 cfs or lower for safe wading.

I think it is near 20,000 cfs right now?

Not much to speculate about. The dams are overflowing. Take a look at the sierra snow pack..... By the time the rivers lower enough to fish for 'em the run'll likely be over. :( :( :( :( :( :(

To add to Darian's post, those shad that do come up will be able to come without slowing down much at all.

The other thing is the temperature of the water, IT'S COLD! The Feather has been running right at 49-50 degrees and I'm sure the American is about the same. I don't know if shad are triggered to spawn at a certain temp but the stripers sure are. And if we get so much coldwater run-off it may be the forth of July before we see shad.

This is only my speculation but everything is really slow in happening and seasons seem way behind what we're used too.
