The general trout stream opener is always the "last Saturday in April" every year in California. This year it falls on April 29th.

Many will go because it is a tradition with friends and family but it will be hard to find any quality fishing this year.

Be sure to plan a serious "3 day" or "week long" trip in June and/or also in October if you want to see what kind of trout fishing we actually have in California.

Bill,
We're driving out to Hebgen in 2nd week of May. Will be fishing hebgen, Quake, wade and Cliff lakes. Staying in tent. Taking the tubes and the little jet boat. I'm hearing of the potetnial for some trout of trophy proportions.

With all this rain and high waters, most creek and streams and rivers seem unfishable. If we don't get enough sun in a few weeks, the opener will be one of the worst in years. I was planning to fish putah creek, but I don't know anymore.

Any recommendations as to where within two hours of Sacramento???

Thank you
