Fished the Delta with a good friend on 3/22

We worked very hard for about a dozen stripes to 4lbs.

Water temp - 52

The fish that made the trip was this BIG MAMMA!!!

Proof that any day on the Delta can be a great day!

Man, that's a nice largemouth!! Don't care to know "where," but can you just tell me what type of water she was holding in, how deep she was, and what kind of retrieve she took? Awesome! 8) By the way, congrats to your friend on his first striper on a fly; no doubt, he's hooked now.

He is definitely hooked. I'd give you the exact spot if I could, but I would need a GPS or something. We were in a slough south of Franks Tract at a junction of two waterways. Very little current at the time, so I think she had moved out into open water (10ft) to hunt.

We were casting through the open water and using a farely "standard" striper retrieve. 2/0 Chartruse Clouser. Quick strips with good pauses. She was right out in the middle of it all.

Good luck!

Thanks Katz, I appreciate the tip! It's not often when I throw a fly out in open water when fishing for largemouths in the Delta, but I have hooked a few that way.

We were acutally coming up with weeds a fair bit on some of the casts, perhaps it was a deeper weedline that she was holding on. I bet that was it. :?: Didn't have a graph to look at the area, but will be sure to do that if such a nice surprise happens again.
