The Virginia Fish and Game Department seasonally operates an
underwater camera near a dam on the James River. While at times
it can be a bit like watching paint dry, often one will get a glimpse
of fish passing the window.

I saw a shad Larry... Thanks to you brutha that's been the first live fish I've seen in a month. I'll use this tool to keep motivated as the flows drop a bit. Just to think I almost risked jail time by throwing streamers in a Oscar tank at a local pet shop I frequent...

Lots of fish showing up on the shad cam today (4-2-06.) Bigger ones
are shad. Schools of smaller alewives and herring. Activity often
increases during the night.

What time do the mermaids come through?

Hey Bill:
Mermaids may be on their way. My Yahoo home page has a story
about an underwater theater. "Actors" have to be able to hold
their breaths for 3 minutes at depths to 20 feet. Wonder what kind of fight one would give when hooked?

The Washington State Dept. of Fish & Wildlife has a number of
"Wildwatchcams" active. Some of your local newscasts may be
reporting on these. The link is

It's that time of year again.

We should have a good Shad season in Nor Cal this year with the lower flows.

Some usually start showing up in April at the mouth of the American River and the mouth of the Feather River.

May is usually a big month but June is the best for wading up river.

How cool would it be to have one of these on the American? I'd bet we'd be seeing snag hooks, gaffs, giant mepps spinners, couple of feet of beer cans, car bodies, meth supplies,........ Hmm, maybe not such a good idea. Ed
