Anything that will float you that is a bit stable will work in some places.

The starting point for still water has always been the float tube. Today it is a V-boat. These are small, light and compact.

Next seems to be a pontoon boat because you are sitting up higher out of the water.

Canoes and Kayaks will give you more speed for distance.

Then we have the Pram, a smaller flat bottom boat that is stable so you can stand to cast and see down in the water with Polarized glasses. You can also take a friend, your dog, ice chest, extra rods.........?

Floating in or on something in still water will get you away from the crowds on the bank and help position you for better results with a little wind.

It will open up an entire new frontier for you.
