Our job at the shop is advising people about what tackle to use but as important is where and when to go use this tackle.

A percentage of us here have had great fly fishing but there are others who still have not seen a day of really good fly fishing.

Everyone hears about the top places in Nor Cal but timing is as important as the right place.

Our first job at the store would be to find out what you are interested in doing. This could be a small stream in the high country or a larger Blue Ribbon Trout Stream with bigger trout or one of our famous fly fishing stillwater trout fisheries. I guess it could be going after Stripers, surf perch or black bass. No matter what it is we can help you with a plan.

If you want really good fly fishing this winter and have lots of time and money you could go to New Zealand, Argentina, Chile for trout or somewhere in the tropics for Bonefish.

After we have discovered where you have the most interest, your dream trip, we can work on timing. Again, June is a big month for fly fishing for trout in many Nor Cal streams and lakes.

Try to plan a three day weekend or better yet an entire week during this prime time.

Many take/pan their vacations during August which is not prime time for trout except maybe the high country, over 8,000 feet. In august you could go to our Pacific coast for surf perch. In august you could go to Alaska or Montana but most places in Nor Cal in August suck.

Come by the shop or put something up here on this BB and we can start helping you plan a good fly fishing trip this summer.

Getting a good guide/instructor for a day early on in your week long adventure can be a good idea too.
