Im hoping to head up to the South Fork of the Eel this winter. I know it takes a long time for this river to come back into a shape after a storm. Anyone know what the range of fishable flows for the South Fork of the Eel?

Brad, the gauge at Sylvandale is the one that I monitor. When it is below eight (8) feet I think that it is fly fishable, 7.5 or so is prime from Maranda to the Forks. Above Benbow can clear faster but there are a few small streams that will muddy up the river fast. So what I would do is call Browns Sporting Goods in Garberville to get an up to the minute report. 707-923-2533. Bruce

Brad,
In case you don't have it, here is the link for flows that Bruce is referring to.

Bruce is generally right about it being clearer up river but a month or so ago there was a slide up river that was making conditions actually a bit worse as you went upstream and I do not know if that is still having any effect on water clarity?
