SF Chronicle article.....

Shoot the moon: The rainiest place in the Lower 48 is French Hill near the Smith River (257 inches in 1983) in Del Norte County. In the past two weeks, some canyons and ridges have received 15 to 20 inches of rain, according to reports. All that water pours into the Smith River, which climbed from about 8,000 cfs to 80,000 cfs, cresting at 30 feet at a primary gauge where 11 feet is considered "fishable."

Same deal on the Sac: At the I Street Bridge in Sacramento, flows were documented at 10,000 cfs two weeks ago, 30,000 cfs six days later, and then 90,000 cfs.

I think the N Yuba at Downieville fishes best at about 200-500 cfs. I would have loved to see how high it got up there!
