I was just wondering if anyone else has had luck at Caples, any time of the year. Almost everytime i go i end up catching one
of the biggest trout in my life, so i was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences.

I have been camping up at Silver Lake during the summer for the past 15 years. Everytime I go up there, we fish silver, caples, and red lake. I've always had my best luck at red lake. There is some nice brookies, and cutts in that lake. If you hit it right, the fishing can be great. I would like to learn how to fish caples a little better...its just so deep! How have you fished it in the past?

during the summer i throw dries along the entire south edge of the lake, and if needed i will throw a streamer for the
big ones. since the water was cold today, i fished a big black leech the entire day. i saw about 8 fish, including one
monstrous brown that chased someone elses lure while i was sitting on a rock. I only caught one, but it was about a
24 inch rainbow, so it made up for a relatively slow day. Here are some pictures of the big ones this year, which is
my first year fishing it.

Here is the one from today, approximately 24 inches. I was fishing alone, but a guy with spinner gear was nice enough
to help me land and take a picture of the fish.

This is the biggest fish of my life. He was measured at 26 inches, and i got him on a 3 inch long crayfish.

I also caught a 23 inch fish ten minutes before the 26 incher, in the exact same spot. There is no picture because
my dad forgot to turn on the camera, which angered me a bit, until i saw a bigger fish.

This is the best looking fish i have ever caught, and it was on a dry nonetheless. about a 21 inch brown.

All great fish, and all from Caples Lake this year. The best part about it is that i saw the entire take on all of the
big fish, from the fish cruising, to noticing my fly, to sucking it in. Caples Lake has been very nice to me this year.

I've been fishing the lakes up Hwy 88 for many years with very good results. Caples is large and deep but it still has areas of shallows/drop-offs and rocks. There's a large population of crawdads in Caples. So softshell dad's should be good as are flies/lures imitating them. Lotsa forage fish in it, too. Chubbs, Lahontan Redsides, etc. Look for inlet creeks and drop-offs near the shoreline. Caples has Lakers, Rainbows, Brown's and Brookies in it. 8) Some very large Lake Trout....

There's some incomplete info going out about the action at Caples. There are two dams impounding the lake. The first dam encountered is passed when approaching the lake from the west. That dam is very steep and does not lend itself to fly fishing (except from a boat). The road runs on top of the second (longer) dam.... Fly fishing is done in this area from a flotation device (any type).... Some good catches there for bait/flies/lures. 8) 8)

One thing to remember about Caples is that it can get very cold/windy in the drop of a hat (even in summer). Go prepared. :D :D
