i fished the little truckee today, and i fished to about a half dozen fish in a
slow flat stretch of water. does anyone have a fly that actually works. i
could see the fish eating little blue winged olives off of the top, but they
refused everything i threw at them. i did manage to land 5 fish
elsewhere. it got tough when the clouds broke up and the wind and sun
showed up. here is a picture of the big one for the day.

Great photo and very nice wild Rainbow trout too.

Thanks

Jeff Putnam was recently on Hat Creek where he was using #18/20 paraduns on 6/7x tippet with a long leader for some great daytime dry fly action.

You need to get some #20 grey or light olive paraduns and some 7x tippet and then get above the fish. Cast downstream to the fish stopping the rod high and then letting the line fall to the water. Then start shooting extra line down to the water so you don't get any drag. You have to have the fly approach the fish first.

Little #18/20 cripples can be good too.

Sometimes little #18 olive mayfly nymphs fished down to them in the surface works as well.

Sometimes we just can't catch them too.

Nice picture and report. The little truckee might not kick out a lot of fish, but the ones you do catch will be very NICE!

fished the little truckee again today, this time with my dad. same story,
tough fish. i tied up some size 20 light olive duns, but the fish still didn't
want anything to do with it. did catch this nice 20 incher, not on a size 20
fly though. The rainbows on this river are amazing. all in all a nice day on the water.

Wow, amazing picture. That is one of the prettiest little truckee rainbows i have ever seen. Looks like you got that place dialed in! Keep it up.

Really nice fish there. I fish the big T quite a bit, but the Little T has always given me fits. Nice to see that someone knows what they're doing out there. Good work.
