Went to Lower Goethe after work for some steelies. There was no one there except for me. All of the salmon guys are up at Nimbus so it was nice to be out at a place that normally sees a lot of pressure. Fished from 5:00 to 7:20. Only hooked one halfpounder (about 16") swinging a caddis emerger. Had it on for 4 jumps and it then popped off. It swam straight at me and I couldn't strip my line in fast enough. I hope there's more!!

Nice report Jeff. I had one do the same thing earlier in the year. Hot little fish, and about the 4th or 5th run and jump he finally got one angled at me and popped himself loose..... tricky little bastids. Good to hear you hooked up at least, I usually hit that area but I'm thinking of trying down or up by paradise beach next time out. I've been getting lots of strikes on caddis emergers on the swing as well, mostly smolts though

Yeah, there's a few around. This guy took about 6-7 jumps during the battle. Really strong fish!
My Columbus Day holiday steelhead. :D

It's ok Mike, just change your name before the month is up and we'll forgive you!! Jeff Schobey, now, doesn't that sound much better than Mike Schobey??? LOL.
Nice fish Jeff btw, I wan't to catch a few like that before the year is up! See ya on the water.

That looks like more than a Halfpounder?
How long Jeff?
Thanks for posting the fine photo of a premium wild AR steelhead.

I figured since my name is Jeff I'd jump in this thread. That is a really nice fish. Glad to see people are catching them.

Not sure how long he was....probably around 21-22" or so. It was the girth that impressed me though. That thing was solid muscle! Not your average long, slender steelhead. Kinda reminds me of the fish I catch in the river during the summer......which some believe are resident fish. Me....I'm kinda on the fence regarding that issue.....
Resident fish vs. Summer-run Steelhead.
I know Jason, among others, is a firm believer in a summer run. I'm not sure......but I really do enjoy catching them, whatever they are! :D

Jeff,
That is a beautiful fish- looking healthy! Must be all the caddis I've been reading about on the board in that big ol' belly.
