I just got an interesting email from an old fishing buddy:

"Bill,
Talked to a bait monger 1st week of Sept.drifting nightcrawlers off the bottom and he landed 50 steelhead in Aug 05. Yes 50 per his words and averaged 3 1/2 lbs with some up to 7-8 lbs.

Early Sept. had some fish grabbing on the upper stretch of American but last 2-3 weeks it's all but fizzled out for me. My guess is the fish were in there early this year. Aug and 1st week of Sept seemed to be the key time.

Yeah, you shoulda been here last month.

Did you have reports of good fishing in Aug???

Mike Lightfoot"

If you remember we had a report from someone who saw a big school of what they thought was halfpounders a long time ago in August? Might have been because we had good high flows all summer?

Interesting....I hit the American a few different times between Watt and Sunrise the last couple weeks of August and the first week of September with no luck. Lets hope that we didnt miss them all together.

I don't think we've missed the steelies as I've seen plenty rising. Have yet to get one to hand but once I figure it out I'll post a more detailed report.
