I'm planning a fishing trip up to your area with my dad when he comes out to visit around Christmas (about three-four days sometime between Dec. 15-Jan. 15) and would like to get some advice on our options.

What are the best prospects for that time of year? I'm hoping there's an opportunity for some good fishing around that time.

Many thanks in advance!

Jon

Where will you be staying?

I think the Lower American River opens on Jan 1 for winter Steelhead.

You can fish Pyramid Lake out of Reno, NV then for Cuttthroat Trout.

You can get a guide/boat for the Delta Stripers then south of Sacto.

You can fish Putah Creek west of Davis, CA then.

They fish the Lower Sac by Redding all winter for trout and steelhead.

Some will be fishing the smaller coastal river for Steelhead then too.

Thanks Bill.

We're not sure where we're staying -- we'll go wherever the best prospects are.

We'll be flying up from Southern Calif. and renting a car, so we are fairly flexible. Any recommendations in terms of affordable accommodations would be appreciated.

I think we'll try to come up after Jan. 1 so we can try for some steelheads and see how that goes.

Many thanks,

Jon
