I have a new passion. It is top water fly fishing for Bay Tarpon (5-35#).

Actually our first trip doing this was 20 years ago when we went to the Rio Chico lagoons east of Caracas, Venezula where the fish were in the hundreds and all mostly uner 10 pounds. Every morning we used small poppers to catch 40 a day running 3-6 pounds.

The two best places I have found in 20 years of looking are Tarpon Cay Lodge (San Felipe) and the Campeche Tarpon Club (Campeche) in the northwestern Mexican Yucatan.

These are new remote areas that have not yet been discovered by many US fly anglers or US tourists.

I will be using an 8 rod with a WF10F Tarpon line to throw Crease Flies, Gurglers, Snookaroos and salt water poppers/sliders. A #2/0 is a good average size hook.

The surface takes are not really describable. They are very close to having a bowling ball land on your offering.
