At one time many years ago the big Cutthroat trout use to be able to swim from Lake Tahoe in CA to Pyramid Lake in Nevada in the Truckee River.

Many years ago Lake Tahoe was full of giant Cuthroat Trout they caught commerically and shipped to San Francisco by rail car.

Here is the CA state record for Cutthroat Trout before they introduced other species into Lake Tahoe.

Cutthroat Trout

William Pomin

31 lb. 8 oz.

1911

Lake Tahoe

I think they were displaced by Mackinaw Trout (Lake Trout), Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Kokanee (landlocked salmon)

I caught a 5 lb mountain whitefish in the Truckee last year and had no idea the state record was only 2lbs, 7 oz , otherwise I would have at least filmed it

Great NCFG,

We use to catch Whitefish down by Floristan on the Truckee years ago.

I think some were around 3 pounds? Wow..........
