Local drift boat guide Keith Kaneko with our old fishing buddy Calvin Chin with a real nice Steelhead out of the lower American River this winter.

Calvin has been going with our group to Loreto for quite some time now. The trip is usually on his birthday in mid-July. He was my roommate on his 80th about 10 years ago.

We were trolling around the north end of Carmen Island when Calvin hooked a big bull Dorado. Our guide yells out "Grande" as it jumps off into the horizon. It jump about 10 feet in the air about 4 times going away from the boat. On the last jump it broke off in mid-air. It was so fast we hardly did anything but stare at it in amazment.

Our guide looked at us and said, "Grande, veinte kilos" which is about 44 pounds.

Darian,

Calvin is a really great guy. He has been retired for many years now. Somehow he found our fly shop and has been doing things with us for years now.

He organised trips to Montana for years where he rented a big cabin for a month of September and invited all kinds of friends to stay there.

At 90+ years he has lots of interesting stories.
