Flow data - what's it good for...

...unless we know when it's fishable.

Is there a reference that will let us know when a particular river is fishable? I think Ralph Cutter's reports used to have that type of information (ie: Flow at 375 cfs - fishable at 75 cfs) but I don't see it for other bodies of water.

Does it exist somewhere? Or can someone knowledgeable on the waters list them?

Lower Sacramento

They float and fish it with drift boats at 15,000cfs.

Under 10,000 is much nicer.

Around 5,000 is nice for lots of wading.


Lower American River

We fish it in boats under 5000cfs.

Under 3,000 is good.

Actually 2,000 is perfect for lots of wading.



I would check with the 'Ted Fay Fly Shop' in Dunsmuir for flow info on the Uper Sac and McCloud.

Normally June is a top month on those two rivers.
