My new pond in Chico rocks! Myself and friends have been catching large spawning bluegills left and right. Gregg caught a huge10-11" "gill" the other night after helping me move in.

Nice fattie above and a smaller fattie below, I caught the smaller fish below the next night on a micro popper. Bye the way Kiene's is selling these cool micro poppers on sale for $1.25 for you warm water guys.

Gregg also caught a nice bass the same night as the big gill.

I'm having too much fun!

I'm sorry: once you move to Chico you're not allowed to post here anymore, especially with pictures. Ask Bill. Its a rule he made.

Jeez... nice fish.

Adam, those are some awesome bluegill! I can tell you're going to be spending a lot of time at that pond. Good for you, you don't find many ponds with that kind of quality. Or at least I don't, ha. :D

Adam & Greg,

The only Bluegill I have seen that was bigger was one that got into a minnow farm when I was working in a bait-n-tackel shop around 1970.

I'm hoping the weather holds out the rest of the week. If it does and I get a chance to hit this one lake, I hope to post some crappie shots that will knock you eyeballs out of socket. I saw a couple photo's last week of a crappie that was taped at 17". Now that 's a slab

Stay tuned :D

17" crappie is very nice, but do they fight harder at that size or give up like the rest of them?

Anyway, good luck Jay.

Those are awesome bluegills! I plan on trying some of that on one of the Wilderness Unlimited properties this weekend.

Chunky 'Gills there ... you should toss some "stink-fish" in there to see what kind of terrible critters live in the depths .

I see Gregg shaves before fishing , too  .... David

Hey Adam...Care to post a few pictures of the flies you are using? A picture is worth a thousand words! My local neighborhood pond is warming up and I've tied a few bass bugs but would enjoy seeing what you are using in Chicoland. Thanks. Thom

These popper are tied up by Umpqua, Bill Kiene sells these poppers at $1.25 (normally $2.25) or around that price on sale because he has an overstock.

I like the size #10 but #12 is ok too.

I likt to trim the legs down a little bit to reduce fowling.

Good Luck!

Every fish but one was caught on a medium sized #8 bass popper. These chunky "gills" were hungry and full of fight.

From the bottom of the real seat to the top of the grip is 10" long. Most of these fish were at least 10" in length. 10" of pure gold!

I like Gooooold :!:
