He is a little 14' Lowe Jon boat I had a few years ago. The 16' model is more popular.

If you want to look at some of these boats go to Sutter Marine in Yuba City and talk with Brian.

Nice rig , Bill . It's a shame about outboard prices these days - I am trying to figure out which Kidney to sell so I can buy a Nissian 4-stroke , 6 horse motor for my new Jonboat .... Right now , I have an OLD (pre-war ?!?) Sears 3 1/2 horse relic that is in the shop , hope it's enough for the big Sacramento (can you row AND run the motor at the same time ?) .

It's better than wading !! David

David,

If you can find a clean used Evinrude or Johnson 6 hp 2 stroke they are very light and a good motor.

What is your Jon boat rated for - max hp?

Bill - I don't have any info on my "new" Jonboat . It's 12 feet long , 40 inches wide at the oarlocks , and dosen't have a plate with any make or other information on it . I believe it should handle any motor up to 8 horse/70 lbs. because my family had boats in this range when I was young . I picked up the boat , motor , and gas can (boat has 2005 tags ...) for LESS than the price of two new flylines :!:

I likely would have spent the same amount on fixing-up my 8 foot wooden Pram , so the choice to buy it was easy .

I think the 4-stroke motors are the way to go , as far as less pollution , but they cost a mint

David,

How wide is it at the bottom in the rear?

On the floor (deck) , 30 1/2 inches wide , 13 1/2 inches deep . Measured against the stern .

It's a clean little boat - the people I got it from were quite old and took pretty good care of it . David

this is close to your boat which is very popular in Florida too.

Most of these are rated for only 3 hp.

You might look at a used Eveinrude 4hp which is very popular and very light.

Another choice is a tiller Minn Kota 12 volt 55# thrust electric which is shockingly fast on a small boat. ~$230 new and very quiet too.

Bill - thanks for the information , I just hope the stupid little motor will get me back up the big Sacramento to the launch at Discoverey !! I don't have much faith in the tiny thing . I'd be SOL tryin' to row against that current ... David

You can launch on the south side of the mouth of the American River with a car-topper at Discovery Park.

You can launch at Howe, Watt or Gristmil too.

Anything that you can float in will open up miles of water that you normally can't fish.

One of our buddies uses an eletric motor down there. You just need one of those big Optima batteries for $149 at Costco.

Bill - I don't think I'll use the boat on the American for much other than night-fishing (I like to catch Stripe wading too much to quit ) . The Feather is a different story .... you just can't wade that one very well ... The Smallmouth in the Feather are going to get to know me well

Thanks again for the info . David
