I have only fished soft hackles a few times. I have heard from more experienced anglers that they can be quite productive. I am thinking about tying up some March Brown soft hackles some time soon and swinging them on the Yuba.

Sylvester Nemes has a brown spider soft hackle or a name close to that which seems to still be a productive pattern.

Has anyone fished a march broown soft hackle on the Yuba?

Adam, last year i fished a few march brown soft hackles on teh yuba in early april and did quite well. When they are hatching the fish really seem to key in on the emerging flies and this soft hackle imitates it very well. I typically fish Alan Banard's (spelling?) march brown flymph. I'll show it to you when i come by the shop tomarrow.

Hi Adam,

I was posting in the classifieds and your post caught my eye. This was always one of my favorite patterns in the early spring on the Yuba:

We used to fish it down-and-across on a slow swing, just like a steelhead wet. Makes a nice all purpose searching pattern also.
