On March 5 and 6 the Department of Fish and Game will be conducting field trials on several promising methods to reduce the threat of transferring New Zealand Mud Snails on wading gear. This is the final phase in what has been a year long study process. Phase 1 identified the pesticides most effective for killing NZMS, Phase 2 identified which of these products were most friendly to fishing gear and the environment. Phase 3 will compare application techniques of the various products in “real life” terms.
DFG is looking for as many people (at least 25 per day) as possible to wade fish in Putah Creek (local guides are being rounded up to show you the ropes) then come back to the parking lot to have waders de contaminated by DFG personnel. Hours are 8:00 – 4:00 at fishing access number 5. Come for a few hours or come for both days – it doesn’t matter, just come!
