Going to our best fly fishing fisheries is not hard because many are talked about. The most serious thing after knowing about a great place is to go there during "prime time".

This is especially important for those who are either in the 'new to fly fishing' situation or those who have only one shot a summer at having a good trip.

For example, for great stream fly fishing in Nor Cal I always reommned going to the Upper Sacramento River in June. Actually June and October are my very general recommendation for a good trout fishing trip in Nor Cal.

To further guarantee a good trip on the Upper Sac I also recommend getting a good guide for the first day so you can learn something about fishing the river. For years this has been going with Fred Gordon who is the "Dean of the Upper Sac". I have had many do this over the years and some have even ended up adopting the river to the point they have purchased a cabin there.

Be sure to have someone here at Kiene's help you plan a great rip this summer so you can sample the best the state has to offer.

I think Fred is in New Zealand right now, at their "prime time".
