October on the Rogue

Mid October is prime time on the mid Rogue in the Grants Pass area. I used to fish only on weekdays and only at first light. Usually no more than twenty minutes from the house. Here is a prime mid October wild fish.

Gordon did it right.

He retired a long time ago and moved right on the banks of the Rogue River.

He spent decades fishing New Zealand, as well.



These fish are Summer Steelhead that run 5 to 10 pounds and larger.

The famous Half-pounder runs are in September on the lower Rogue River, below the canyon.

This fishery has good access, where you can drive right out on the gravel bars.


Some years, they get Half-pounders all the way up to the middle river.
