I love fly fishing, but I'm not very good at it. One thing that I've not been able to keep up on are the myriad line options that have come about in the past, oh, twenty years or so. I bought line for my rod a loooong time ago, a sinking line, and it's done well for me, but I really would like to get some new line (and if possible, not have to hock a kidney on Craigslist to pay for it).
I fish a 9 foot 8 wt. Sage from 2004 (that I bought at Kiene's!) with an old Teton reel. What line do you recommend I throw for shad on the Lower American? I almost always fish from a boat.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Call Flyfishing Specialties and ask for Andy.
Or text Andy your question. 916/849-1529
Right now, Andy might be guiding daily for Shad, Stripers, and Steelhead on the LAR.
Now that they are using indicator methods for almost every fishery, I think a 6-weight outfit with a floating line is what most use.

Scientific Anglers AMPLITUDE TEXTURED ANADRO INDICATOR. Fly lines have gone up in price significantly from 20 years ago. It's about double the price now and sometimes triple.

It might be a bit heavy for your rod, but I have an old (new in box, never used) Rio big boy 300grain shooting head you can have. you would need to get a running line for it. let me know if you're interested.

Thank you, Charlie! I'll humbly pass this time, but I really appreciate the offer.
