Up for sale are two lovely rods. Please PM or email rich@classicpowellrod.com with interest…
All forms of payment accepted. Shipping is included in the price. All Board rules apply.
First up is an EC Powell 9’ 2/2 5-6wt. This is not an all original collectors piece, it’s a fisherman’s dream. You’re getting an almost as new condition earlier EC trout rod here. The rod has the typical Powell/Yerxa past it seems.
Original tube, later Tony Maslan sock. Tube has an original mailing label on it in rough shape. One tip has an EC ferrule and the other one of Max Yerxas ferrules.
This rod was in Max’s shop when noted Powell/Yerxa expert Kevin Gerig bought the Yerxa inventory. I believe it was in for a strip/rewrap and ferrule repair. It had the new ferrule, but was un-finished when Kevin acquired it. Kevin did a rewrap/finish that is faithful and lovely.
Rod is straight, ferrule fit is excellent, tips are full length and fully mated. Rod weighs 4 1/2oz and has a 14 ferrule. This is a chance to own one of ECs finest trout models that has a completely clean bill of health and is in phenomenal shape. Again, not a collectors piece, it’s a rod for someone to fish the hell out of and love every second of…just as EC, Tony, and Max (who all appear to have had their hands on this rod) intended. Just a gem.

Next is a Walton Powell Companion rod. This rod is near mint. I picked it up from a fellow Forum member at the Santa Rosa show a couple of years ago with the intention of taking it on a Smith River float that ended up canceled. It’s a typical Walt length…8’3”/9’4”. Probably meant to be 8’3” and 9’ 3”, but who’s counting?
All sections are straight and full length. Ferrule fit is perfect. Merlot color wraps and champagne with rosewood insert seats. All sections serial numbered. Tips are fully mated. Longer half weighs 5.95oz and short half 5.15 and the rod has a 15 ferrule. Correct companion bag. Tube label is one of my repro labels. Walt would have sold it as a 4-5-6wt/5-6-7wt is my guess. Outstanding example.
