At 84 and still in very good shape have decided to give up wade steelhead fishing. Will continue still water fly fishing. Have been fortunate to catch and release over 600 steelhead on the Rogue River. It has been a wonderful 24 years living on the Rogue River.

Hi Gordon,
You must have retired around 24 years ago at 60 from McClellan AFB.
We have all been very fortunate to have been born when we were.
Growing up in America right after World War II was the best of times.
Being raised and mentored by folks of the Great Generation made us better people.
Our parents, aunts, uncles, and old friends went through the Great Depression and World War II.
That made them what they were, amazing people.
Fishing and hunting in the time we grew up was still very good.
Most of us old Baby Boomers, that are left, are not wading trout streams or steelhead rivers.

Gordon, I'm sorry to hear your wade in and swing a fly days are coming to a close. I hope you can continue to get out and drift down the river or stand on a gravel bar. It won't be October without your reports with a nice fish picture!
Several years ago you shared some of your fall spey flies with me. I still have most of them and love to tie them on and swing them thru a run. Always figured to send you a picture of a big steely with one of your flies in his mouth, but things just have not lined up that way.

Yes Gordon,
You are one of my heroes for retiring sooner than most, going to southern Oregon and fishing.
Over the 20 plus years on this forum, we have had discussions about retirement.
Some have contacted me and thanked me for getting them to retire earlier than planned.
Some argued that early retirement s was not for them.
I retired at 70, but I never really worked. I just stood and talked a lot.
Us old Baby Boomers had the best lives, ever, so we all need to be grateful.
Sadly, many just cannot retire early.

Appreciate the kind words. In addition to the steelhead was blessed to catch & release a few cutthroat.
