I am looking to launch the driftboat near the hwy 20 crossing. It is my understanding that the public launch is closed. Where do you launch the boat?

There was no public launch by hwy 20. You just launched where ever you could. The only legit boat launch is in private property.

ok, can I launch a boat anywhere around hwy 20 bridge into the yuba? Is there still access to drive to the water?

No, not public access.

Pathetic....like many other things in the great state of California going down the tube. I guess they don't need our money (gas, lunches, fly fishing gear etc).

The fly fishing club (can't remember its name) that owns the property on the south side of the river from hwy 20 upstream will allow boat launching for a fee. Not sure how much it is. Also, if you join the Yuba River Club (www.yubariverclub.net) which is located downstream near the Daguerre Dam, they have an agreement with the hwy 20 club to allow you access. It costs xtra for an annual pass, however.

Makes me think and where are all the fishing guides launching their boats? Maybe they are able to provide some suggestions......

In the past 50 years, access to rivers, streams, and lakes has been going away.

Up in the mountains you used to be able to drive into many lakes where there was good access.

Some had parking, rough camping, porta-potties, and garbage cans/dumpsters.

Today, the gravel access roads to the lakes are closed near the paved roads/highways with parking so you can walk or ride a bike in.

I fear that the wild lands might be closed completely to everyone.

Yes, you can hand carry your boat within the SR 20 highway easement on the north side of the river. That bar welded to the top of the guardrail was put there by CDFW some years ago for that purpose. As for the no trespassing sign nearby, you can ignore it. It is not Nordic Quarry's control under the bridge or, for that matter, anywhere below the high water mark. They have been cited repeatedly for hassling fishermen, so if they threaten you they will be in trouble yet again. Their quarry permit is from CDFW, so if they bother you, they're risking their entire business
