This 4-piece, 9’6” XP is rated for a #6 line but begs to be loaded with a #7. It is a great rod for the steelhead fisherman.

Overall, it is in excellent condition. There are a couple of scuff marks on the finish that I have tried to capture in photographs. The cork grip, reel seat, fighting butt, guides, and wraps are all in exceptional condition.

Ferrule alignments dots were applied by the previous owner. Chuck Echer’s name is on the blank, and I suspect that he was the original owner. Some of you will recognize the name. He was a highly respected northern California fly tier, flyfishing instructor, and NCCFFF Hall of Famer.

The original Sage rod tube is included. A cloth sack (not original) is also included. I am asking
$325.00 plus $30.00 for shipping CONUS. Happy to answer any questions or provide additional photographs. Thanks.

Fantastic rod. I would buy it, but I have way to many rods already!! I also have 4 of these in my rod room.

I think XP is still my favorite Sage model of all time.

Boy, people were mad when they discontinued the XP series.

Naturally, the 9'#5 in 4 piece was the top seller but the 9'6" #6 and 9'6"#7 in 4 piece with a small fighting butt were huge sellers.

I believe Chuck Echer was a good buddy of Terry Eggleston and together they did some volunteer work in the fly fishing community.

Absolutely correct, Bill. And it's likely that Terry was the one that added Chuck's name to this rod.
